The Surface Design Association is truly an international organization which is reflected in the biennial conference. For the first time ever there were 10 scholarships for K-12 art teachers to attend the last conference, Confluence in Minneapolis. It is expected this opportunity will continue. The next conference is this spring in San Antonio, Texas.
The Maine region, number around 45 members spread all over the state. In the past five years SDA Maine typically has had a gathering to share work, techniques, and a meal in the spring.
To avail yourself of the opportunity to show with the group at Engine Gallery, one must be a member of SDA. http://www.surfacedesign.org/ You can join online with a credit card or by phone and write a check. I hope you will join us. The annual fee to this international organization is the only financial obligation, other than those outlined in Jill Synder Wallace’s email to the Maine membership.
The group had the first SDA Maine exhibition, September through November 2010 at the Atrium Gallery, University of Southern Maine, at Lewiston. The exhibition, “Surface Matters,” was over two years unfolding. Members are working on a second exhibition in Southern Maine at ENGINE in Biddeford. As details are firmed up. SDA Maine members will be hearing from Jill Snyder Wallace who has spear headed this endeavor.
